The TDA (Training and Development Agency for Schools) has been assessing higher level teaching assistants (HLTAs) for around five years since the review of schools workforce recommended this post in 2003. |
The HLTA is a vital role as they work closely in the school alongside the teacher, providing valuable support for teaching and learning activities. HLTAs work right across the curriculum, acting as a specialist assistant for a specific subject or department or helping to plan lessons and develop support materials.
The professional standards that the TDA demand mean that the HLTA status needs to be assessed and monitored to ensure worthy candidates are approved. The system that supports, tracks and issues certificates is now developed and run by RM Data Solutions since the beginning of 2008.
The completely web based, but highly secure system, is a transparent hub for assessors, TDA staff and a variety of other stakeholders involved in the award process. This central system reduces the amount of support and maintenance required for the process and also means that powerful on demand reporting - provided by LogiXML - is available to key TDA staff.
The tracking improvements, excellent reporting and improved helpdesk support have all contributed to improved service for TDA customers. A quote from one assessor sums up how well the new system is delivering :
"I just wanted to let you know that we have just done the moderation sampling for May and it worked really well. We were very impressed with how user friendly and flexible the system is. This part of the process is a fantastic improvement.”
